Veneers Q&A

What are veneers?

Veneers are custom-made shells of porcelain bonded to the front of your natural, permanent teeth. They provide a pain-free alternative to oral surgery and more drastic dental treatments.

Veneers are incredibly thin and attach to the surface of your teeth without causing a bulky appearance. Dr. Lazarof designs, shapes, and tints each veneer to your desired look, ensuring you love the results.

Am I a good candidate for veneers?

To see if you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers, Dr. Lazarof conducts an oral exam, reviews your oral health history, and asks about your goals for treatment. Then he takes digital X-rays.

To receive porcelain veneers you must have a healthy jaw and gums, no active decay or cavities, and teeth that do not require orthodontics. If you satisfy these prerequisites, you will likely qualify for treatment.

What is the process for getting veneers?

Getting porcelain veneers typically takes two separate appointments.

If Dr. Lazarof determines you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers, he administers a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort and prepares your teeth.

He removes a thin layer of enamel from each tooth, about one millimeter thick. Next, Dr. Lazarof takes impressions of your teeth and gives them to the onsite dental laboratory.

Before sending you home, Dr. Lazarof applies a set of trial veneers. You wear the trial veneers for a week to see how you like them. Take notes so you can share your thoughts with Dr. Lazarof at your second appointment.

A week later, you return to Sargon Dental. Dr. Lazarof removes your trial veneers and replaces them with your permanent ones. You leave the office with a brilliant, fully functional smile.

Do veneers require special care?

To keep your porcelain veneers in optimal shape, it is important to practice good dental hygiene. Dr. Lazarof recommends brushing and flossing daily and visiting Sargon Dental every six months for a professional exam and cleaning.

If you play contact sports or lead a physically active lifestyle, wear a mouthguard to prevent chipping and cracking. Avoid bad habits like nail-biting and chewing on ice. These activities can damage your veneers.
