Lip Augmentation Q&A

What is lip augmentation?

Lip augmentation refers to cosmetic treatments that plump and enhance your lips. Most lip augmentation and enhancement treatments are temporary, but some can permanently alter the appearance of your lips.

Are there different types of lip augmentation?

There are many different types of lip augmentation, including:

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that Dr. T injects into your lips to temporarily plump your lips. Restylane® and Juvéderm® are hyaluronic acid fillers that Dr. T offers at Sargon Dental. Hyaluronic acid is a viscous substance your body already produces. It keeps your skin supple and buoyant.

Restylane and Juvéderm typically last for about 12-24 months before gradually wearing off. You can preserve your results with maintenance treatments.

Fat transfer

For permanent results, fat transfer treatments take unwanted fat from one area of your body and inject it into your lips. The entire procedure lasts about 60-90 minutes. A lip fat transfer produces subtle, natural-looking results that can last a lifetime.

AlloDerm®

AlloDerm is a soft tissue augmentation procedure that uses sterile tissue to enhance the shape and size of your lips. A natural-looking option for lip augmentation, AlloDerm produces subtle results that can last for several years or more.

Is lip augmentation safe?

Temporary dermal fillers are safe, minimally invasive treatments. They’re popular because they’re quick and relatively painless. Dermal fillers require little to no downtime, so you can resume your normal activities within one day.

While you may experience minor bruising, swelling, and soreness up to one week after treatment, fillers typically have very few side effects.

Lip fat transfers are safe, effective procedures for those unhappy with the shape and size of their lips. You may experience minor pain and swelling for up to three days, but there is little to no recovery time.

If you enhance your lips with AlloDerm, Dr. T uses very small incisions to place the implant into your lips. Your recovery time should last no more than one week. When you return for your next visit, Dr. T removes your sutures. Your AlloDerm implants may last for up to five years once placed.
